Etiquette for All
There are wonderful books available to
educate the
Elite on Etiquette. My goal is to Educate the Average
and to Enlighten the Elite with the Basics.
B e
Gracious: marked by kindness & courtesy:
marked by tact and delicacy
Example: As a guest show pleasure in being invited.
Arrive without expectation. Speak kindly and compliment often. As a
a host greet guest warmly. Treat them well. Take pleasure in the
fact that they came.
Tactful: a keen sense of what to do or say
in
order
to maintain good relations with
others
or avoid offense
Example: if a fly has landed in the butter remove
and replace the plate
or ask the help to
do it. Avoid announcing
it to the guests
or host.
Appreciative: sensitive awareness: an expression of admiration
approval or gratitude
Example:Compliment the host about anything you
find pleasurable at
the party whether it
be the food, music,
or the conversation.
Avoid negative comments. Thank
the
host for having you.
Thank the guests
for coming.
Considerate: thoughtful of the feelings or rights
of others
Example: Avoid taking second helpings of food
before all guests have
taken one.
Refrain from smoking
in or near people
who don't. Treat others
as you wish
to be treated.
Kind:affectionate, loving: of a sympathetic nature: disposed
to be helpful
Example: If the hostess looks frazzled offer to
help. If a guest is
standing alone and
looks uncomfortable
mingling introduce
them to others
If you fail to attempt any of the above basics whether at a picnicor
in a palacethen where you place your fork or how you pour the tea will
be of little concern to me.
